What if we didn't feel Hunger?
1 April, 2022; Friday
We all one human beings and we need food for fulfiling our basic needs. But have you even wonder that What if we didn't feel hunger? Just like in hindu mythology, it is said that gods had the power to fulfil our hunger needs, so it may be something like that the hormone which causes hunger was stopped by God which restored the body and we didn't feel hunger. So let's try to understand that if this destruction of hormone continues what would happen? Before understanding the effects we have to See the defination and working of hunger in own body..
What is Hunger?
Hunger is the situation when a person is not having enough food to eat which causes Some sounds from stomach and appetite.
What causes Hunger?
When you eat, your intestines move food and liquid along by contracting and relaxing, a process known as peristalsis. Once the food has been digested, your intestines continue to move air along your digestive tract, creating rumbling sounds. Stomach grumbles simply mean that you haven't eaten in a while.
Hunger is generally caused by two hormone:-
(1) Ghrelin - Ghrelin is the hormone that is produced and released in stomach. and also by intestine, pancreas and brain. It is also termed as the hunger hormone. It acts at the hypothalamus an control appetite, which means our desire for wanting food. Ghrelin also acts on the regions of brain involve in reward processing, therefore after eating food we feel happy. It also stimulates growth hormone which breaks down fat tissue. and causes build up of muscles.
The levels of ghrelin are controlled by food intake. Levels of ghrelin rises before eating and when fasting. It also rises during the mealtime.
2) Leptin - Leptin is a hormone predominantly made by adipose cells and enterocytes in the small intestine that helps to regulate energy balance by inhabiting hunger, which in turn diminishes fat storage in adipocytes.
Back to topic
Now, as we know that which hormones are responsible for the cause of hunger. We could move back to the topic.
So, if this two hormones are not secreted then, the hormone ghrelin which breaks down the fat tissue and cause build up of muscles will not take place, as a result the fat would be stored in the body cause a large amount of weight gain. This will only occur when we may eat.
But If we stay as normal and don't eat anything then the stomach will produce too much gastric acid as a result the walls of the duodenum will have cracks and may cause peptic ulcer in future. Without energy, there will be a lack of nutrients and vitamins which may cause deficiency. And it would lead to death. A report shows that an average person can live without food for 8 to 21 days.
So, I would like to conclude that if the hindu's mythology was right then this process can be done only for sometimes and the person may feel as he is satisfied.
